Proud New Members of Cross-Party Group of Ukraine
We are grateful that Mission of Innocents’ work with Ukrainian refugees in Scotland has led to an ever-expanding network of collaborative organizations with whom our mission aligns. Recently, the Cross-Party Group of Ukraine (CPG), which promotes political, cultural, educational and economic links between Scotland and Ukraine and is supported by the Embassy of Ukraine in the UK and the Consulate of Ukraine in Edinburgh, invited us to join them.
As members of the CPG, our team participated in the group’s seventh meeting at the The Scottish Parliament, where the focus was on the mental health needs of Ukrainians in Scotland.
Research shared at the session validated the origin of Mission of Innocents’ work: it highlighted that prolonged uncertainty significantly increases mental health challenges among displaced Ukrainians. It was noted that mental wellbeing is supported not only by professional care, but also by active and creative engagement, where, when it comes to children, is where we come into the picture.
Mission of Innocents founder Joyce Landry shared our experience supporting displaced Ukrainian children, using art, dance, music, sports, and poetry to help process trauma and foster emotional recovery.
The CPG has stated, “Mission of Innocents brings invaluable expertise and dedication to the Cross-Party Group, and we look forward to working with them to further support the Ukrainian community and deepen the relationship between Scotland and Ukraine.”
We thank the Cross-Party Group of Ukraine for their warm welcome and look forward to contributing to this important initiative!
